The little girl who went door to door looking for someone to love her. ❤️
Some cats survive by avoiding people.
Caralee survived by looking for them.
Day after day, this beautiful little girl wandered through neighborhood driveways, calling out as she went. While other homeless cats hid beneath porches or disappeared into the shadows, Caralee did the opposite. She made herself known. She wanted to be seen.
Maybe she was hungry.
Maybe she was tired.
Maybe she was lonely.
Most likely, she was all three.
There is something especially heartbreaking about a cat who doesn’t give up on people, even when people seem to have given up on her.
Somewhere along the way, Caralee lost the safety every cat deserves. She lost the comfort of knowing where her next meal would come from. She lost the certainty of having a warm place to sleep when the day was over.
But she never lost hope.
Instead, she walked from driveway to driveway carrying that hope with her.
Perhaps each house looked promising from a distance.
Perhaps each open garage, each person getting out of a car, each front door swinging open made her heart lift just a little.
Maybe this time.
Maybe this house.
Maybe this person.
Maybe this is where I belong.
But evening would come, doors would close, lights would go out, and somehow Caralee was still alone.
The next day she would try again.
And the day after that.
And the day after that.
It is difficult to imagine how many strangers she cried out to before someone finally stopped. How many people heard her voice but kept walking. How many times she gathered the courage to approach another house carrying the same small hope in her heart.
Because Caralee wasn’t searching for a driveway.
She was searching for a family.
She was searching for the person who would look at her and see more than a homeless cat.
The person who would see that she was sweet.
That she was friendly.
That she was worth stopping for.
That she was worth loving.
Today, Caralee is safe, but when you look into her eyes, it’s impossible not to think of the little girl she was out there, wandering from house to house with nothing but hope to guide her.
A little girl who believed someone would eventually answer when she called.
A little girl who kept looking for love long after many would have given up.
And somehow, despite everything she went through, she was right. ❤️
