Meet Cornflake! This tiny teen mom, who is only a 9-11 month old kitten herself, was found in a South Philly backyard with her four sick kittens. Cornflake did a great job taking care of them, but she was also super happy to leave them behind (in the next room over) and start a life of her own indoors, where she has always belonged.
When Cornflake first came into foster, she was both starving and nursing, which is not a great combo if you think about it. This made her a bit cranky and apprehensive about how to interact with her foster mom. One one hand, she knew she needed humans for food and survival, but on the other hand, she didn’t totally trust that humans would be kind to her, and she was wary of certain movements they made, especially with their hands. Once Cornflake’s kittens moved into the next room and her environment became a lot less chaotic, Cornflake has really started to shine and is learning to trust that people are both kind and willing to give her the space she needs to feel comfortable at her own pace.
Cornflake will solicit food and attention with head butts, but she still gets spooked by the close contact sometime, so someone willing to be patient with her is very important. She was initially scared of almost all toys, but her foster mom tied some mice to a string and got her to start playing that way, without too many hand movements involved. Every day, Cornflake does something new, like sleep on the cat tree, or show her belly, and it’s the cutest and most adorable thing in the world. She will absolutely need an adopter willing to go at her pace, keep her world a little small before expanding it, and see the potential in Cornflake to be the best cat ever if you put in the effort to get there. This tiny girl will reward you one hundred times over if you take a chance on her!
Cornflake is fostered in Southern NJ, about 25 minutes from South Philly. She can’t wait to meet you!
